There are hundreds, if not thousands of famous foreign scientists who have all had their influence and contribution towards the scientific knowledge that we now have. It is impossible to list them all but a few names that are particularly important include Antoine Laurent de Lavoisier, Dmitri Mendeleev, Marie Curie and Albert Einstein.

• Anotine Laurent de Lavoisier. Lavoisier is considered by many as the 'Father of Modern Chemistry'. Born in France, the nobleman was the first to term both oxygen and hydrogen as well as play an important role in the development of the metric system. He also put together the first extensive list of the elements and helped reform chemical nomenclature.
• Dmitri Mendeleev. Mendeleev was a Russian chemist and inventor. He is the creator of the first ever periodic table of elements. He used this table to help predict and discover properties of elements that were otherwise unknown. He was also the writer of a two-volume textbook, 'Principles of Chemistry'.
• Marie Curie. A Polish-French physicist and chemist, Curie is renowned for her pioneering research into radiotherapy. She was the first person to receive two Nobel prices, one for physics and one for chemistry, and was the first female professor at the University of Paris.  Her research included the theory of radioactivity (a term that she coined), techniques for isolating radioactive isotopes as well as discovering the two elements uranium and polonium. Curie died due to exposure to radiation and became the first woman to be buried at the Pantheon in Paris due to her own merits.
• Albert Einstein. One of the most household names of foreign scientists, Einstein was a German theoretical physicist who developed the theory of general relativity. This discovery led to a revolution in physics and Einstein's contributions led to him being named as the 'Father of Modern Physics'. Albert Einstein was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1921 for physics and is considered one of the most prolific intellects in human history.
