To convert feet and inches into square metres the first thing you need to do is turn the initial measurement into inches.
So if you have a shape measuring 4ft 8 ins x 1ft 9ins, your dimensions become 56ins x 21ins. You then multiply them to get your square inches 56 x 21 = 1176 square inches. Then you convert that to square meters and with 39.4 inches in a meter the answer would be 1 square meter = 1552.4 square inches.
And using this example would mean: Square meters = 1176 square inches divided by 1552.4 = 0.76 square.

Convert the measurement into inches. So if you have a rectangle that is 2 foot 4 inches by 3 foot 6 inches, your dimensions become 28 inches by 42 inches. Multiply these two numbers to get the square inches 28 x 42 = 1176 square inches. Now convert this to square meters. There are 39.4 inches in a meter, so 1 square meter = 1552.4 square inches.

So:

square meters = 1176 square inches divided by 1552.4 = 0.76 square meters

Put inches and feet together, 12 inches in a foot (1 foot 6 in = 1.5 in)
convert feet to meters (can use this link to convert)
www.unitconversion.org is square b/c you multiply 2 measurements together (the width times the length), which ever unit you use, as long as the units are the same.
