Mitosis is a process of cell division in which number of chromosomes remain same generation after generation. In any hypothetical organism having 16 chromosomes when one of its cell undergo mitosis TWO daughter cells will be produced each having 16 chromosomes.mitosis is simply a dividing process involving cytokinesis and karyokinesis so a cell simply divides into two cells.  biology.about.com
