There are plenty of advantages, most notably they clear out forests, grasslands, etc from excess dead organic materials. And recent archeological discoveries have found that many civilizations such as the native americans used to set wildfires to clear forests so when the grass grew back there would be few trees and it would be easier to hunt for food.
