A glacier is a large area of ice that forms on land and moves with gravity. They are second only to oceans as the largest area of total water.

There are only two places where continental glaciers or ice-sheets exist. An ice sheet is an area of more than 50,000 square km that is covered by ice and Antarctica and Greenland are the only two places where they exist.

These areas of ice are so huge that if, for example, the Greenland ice sheet melted, it would cause a world-wide rise in sea level of 6 metres.

If the same happened to the Antarctic ice sheet, then sea level would rise by 66 metres.
