Another name of bone spur is osteophyte. It is development of bony projections on the joint bones. There are many reasons of bone spur formation like
  • Damage to the cartilage at joint (our body try to repair this damage and bone spur are formed)
  • It can be due to some other diseases like spondylosis and spinal stenosis.
  • degeneration of bones due to aging
So formation or reformation of the bone spur depends upon the reason and damage to the bone. Knee spur are more common because knee joint is  more prone to degenerate due to weight of the body.
