Condensed milk was invented by Gail Borden in 1840's. Gail Borden was born in 1801 In Norwich, New York. Before condensed milk was invented, milk was known to be a child's food which was difficult to keep fresh and carried germs. It was known that milk could not be stored for more than a day or two. Milk had to be refrigerated to keep it safe. In 1840's Borden started working on the idea to condense milk. Only after the Civil War commenced could Borden could promote condensed milk. During the Civil War, the troops needed milk that would not spoil and this helped Borden promote his invention. Jeremiah Milbank, a financer, helped him in the venture which utimately made him successful. Borden died in Borden, Colarado County, Texas in 1874.

It is largely believed that the first chocolate bar was invented in the year 1842 by the Cadbury's Chocolate Company which was based in England. However, there are claims that it was Joseph Fry & Sons who in the year 1847 came up with the first chocolate bar after mixing butter and sugar with cocoa and making a paste.
The history of chocolate actually dates back to the Mayan civilisation where the cocoa drink was a regular part of their diet. In terms of the actual content of chocolate, it was John Cadbury who first started roasting the grinding the chocolate beans way back in 1824. He sold this in the tea shop that he owned. The first milk chocolate factory was founded in the year 1875 by two men, a Swiss chocolate maker by the name of Daniel Peter and condensed milk manufacturer, Henri Nestle.
