I'm actually doing some research on this for a school paper, and I found out that you can get an annual salary of about $49,860, and up to $90,000 if you're working for a federal agency.  You can receive health, dental and retirement/pension benefits and plans as well. From my research, I've found that you don't necessarily have to work full time, but instead work part-time and be "on call", but that depends on the type of work you're doing. And your vacation time and sick pay are determined by how long you've been with the company or organization. But I think the best part is knowing that you're helping to keep the bad guys off the streets...lolz

Some advantages would be that you would get the satisfaction of playing a role in solving a case, respect as you climb the ladder of positions, and constantly being engaged in challenging yet rewarding situations.
Some cons would be that the long hours would be strenuous, frustration from complicated situations, and that making a mistake could possible help land someone in jail for the rest of their lives.

The disadvantage of being a forensic scientist is having long hours to work. They are also working with dangerous chemicals. They work day and night 12 hours or 24 hours. Some advantages are that you get respect from  the  law.

Forensic scientist determine such factors as how something became what it is at present, as in how did someone get murdered or how did they die. What factors can be directly tied to the events that lead the object or situation to become what it is a present. In concept they de-engineer, back-ward thinking, and event so as to determine such things as what it is or what it was, what event transpired to bring it to the present state. Essentially working back wards to discover how and why. The benefits would be discovery of processes of evolutions or change as it relates to current life and existence.
