French is widely spoken, either as a first or official language, in several countries of Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and the Asian-Pacific region. Apart from being the national language of France, French is spoken in Switzerland (in the Swiss region called Romandie, to be specific), Belgium (in the Belgian region called the Walloons), Luxembourg, Valle d'Aosta in Italy and the principalities of Monaco and Andorra.    In North America, French is the official language of the Canadian province of Quebec, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthelemy, St. Martin, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon and the U.S. States of Louisiana and Maine.    French is spoken in several African, Asian and Asia-Pacific countries, such as Algeria, Tunisia, the Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire), Equatiorial Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville, formerly known as Zaire), Niger, Senegal, Haiti, Lebanon, Martinique, Vietnam, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Rwanda, the Seychelles, Togo, Mauritania, Morocco, Laos, Lebanon, Syria, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mayotte, the Reunion Island, Vanuatu, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, New Caledonia and the union territory of Pondicherry in India (Pondicherry, Mahe, Karikal and Yanam).

French is an official language in the entire country of Canada, not just Québec. One million French-speaking Canadians live and work outside of the province of Québec in "la langue de Molière".

French is a Romance language originating in France but spoken in many other parts of the world including Luxembourg, Southern Belgium and Western Switzerland in Europe. In North America, French is spoken in Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario, other parts of Canada, and parts of Louisiana. Other countries include former French colonies in North Africa and West Africa; in Haiti, Martinique and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean; in French Guiana in South America; in Tahiti and numerous other islands in Oceania. It has long been the language of international diplomacy and communication, and although replaced largely by English since World War II, it remains de rigueur (of obligatory requirement) for educated people around the world to have some level of basic French ability.

French is a romantic language that is spoken in many parts of the world. Of course, it is the primary language of France, but there are several other countries where the French language is spoken. These countries include: Canada, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central Africian Republics; Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea, Luxembourg, Mali, Monoco, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. It is also spoken in the Canadian providence of Quebec and in the Swiss districts of Vaud, Nechatel, and Jura. French is also spoken in parts of the United States. For example, there are cities located in the southern part of the United States such as New Orleans, Louisana and Biloxi, Mississippi where one can here the French language. This is because these areas were primarily settled by French explorers. Those are basically the main areas of the world where the French language is spoken and understood.
