The exact location of the Philippines is in between 116oE and 127oE longitude and in between 4oN and 21oN latitude. The Republic of the Philippines is part of the East Indies and is located South East of the continent of Asia in the Western part of the Pacific Ocean. Taiwan is located North of the Philippines across the Luzon Strait and Vietnam is located to the West of the Philippines across the South China Sea. To the East of the country lies the Philippine Sea. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila, although its largest city is Quezon City.

Because the Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, it has a tropical climate that makes the country extremely prone to typhoons and earthquakes. But its location has also given the country a splendid variety of natural resources. It is also considered to be one of the richest areas of biodiversity on the planet.

The Republic of the Philippines also has a famous archipelago which consists of at least 7,107 separate islands. The Philippines can also be placed in three of the main geographical divisions, which are: Visayas, Luzon and Mindanao.

There are two official languages that are spoken in the Philippines, these are Filipino (which is their national language) and English. There are also quite a few recognized regional languages such as Pangasinese, Hiligaynon, Bikol, Tagalog, Waray, Ilokano and Cebuano, although these are rarely spoken outside of their regions. Optional languages that are not common but also not unheard of in the Philippines are Arabic and Spanish.

As mentioned before, because of its location, the Philippines has a very tropical climate that results in it being very humid, the average temperature each year being around 26.6 degrees Celsius. However temperatures can range from 21 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius depending on the month.
