Mount Etna is located in Italy on the east coast of Sicily. The mountain is very near to Catania and Messina. Mount Etna is an active volcano. The largest Active Volcano in Europe is Mount Etna. The elevation of the mountain is roughly about 3,324 meters. It is a type of Stratovolcano which is composite in type. The age of the rock is approximately 500,000 years. Mount Etna is easily the largest volcano in Italy. There are only three active volcanoes in the entire of Italy. Mount Etna is three times the height of the Mountain Vesuvius which is the second largest active volcano in Italy. The name of the mountain is actually derived from the Greek word "Aitho" which means 'To Violently Burn'. The easiest way to climb up the mountain is Rock Climbing.
