An entity relationship diagram is a graphic specialised to illustrate the interrelationships between entities in a database. These ER or ERD diagrams will often utilize symbols to represent types of information and boxes will usually be used to represent entities. Commonly, diamonds will represent relationships while ovals will represent attributes. The two entities in a student info system diagram would be the students and the information.
