Another commonly frequented location for tornados is Naples, Italy. About 20 miles to the north of the city, there is a 20mi x 40mi box with activity rivaling that of the midwest. This phenomena results from the unique geologic profile surrounding the area. To the south/southeast is Mount Vesuvius. To the west is the Tyrolean Sea. To the northeast are the Caserta mountains (made famous in Star Wars Episode I). A combination of the African winds blowing across the Med, combined with the weather-making nature of Vesuvius and the mountains make this a very active location. Fortunately, the preponderance of activity is limited to F1 level tornados. However, on an active evening, observers can see strings of 4-8 tornados following in succession down the same path. I lived there for 3 years and found it quite amazing; until our house was hit by one. However, what bothered me most was the destruction of my 2 week old new gas grill.

Tornadoes occur worldwide but mainly in the US and Canada. They are most common in Tornado Alley. They also commonly occur in Uruguay, Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa, and Japan. In Tornado Alley, tornadoes occur in late winter, early spring. Farther north, tornadoes occur in the later parts of summer. The moist air in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic/Pacific make it another common target.
Most tornadoes also occur form March-June and around 3-9pm. But, they can occur any time, any place.

I currently live in Gricignano which is about 15km north of Naples Italy. I can attest to the crazy amount of tornadoes that happen here.I just saw two today!  They didn't touch down but they sure scared the crap out of me. Back in I believe it was April there were 3 of them next to each other.
