They have the same valance electron count, which is the definition of chemical family.

They participate in the same type chemical interactions, if they are generally reactive. ( gold is rather nonreactive )

They, due to the same type of non local electron arrangement are excellent conductors of electricity.

They have similar malleability and ductility.
