Okay. I'm only 12 so don't expect a really scientific answer.
Thermal energy (heat) from the sun can be used to make wind. As the sun warms the Earth it also warms the atmosphere. There are some parts on Earth which get continuous rays of sunlight from the sun so it is warm all year round, but in other places they get less sunlight so therefore the climate is colder. Warm air (which is lighter than cold air) rises. Then the cold air moves in and this motion makes the wind blow.
As the wind blows, it pushes the wave currents along.
