Tsunami is the term used for a series of waves which are created by displacement of a large volume of water or an ocean. A Tsunami can be generated through Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, underwater explosions, landslides, mass movements above or below water etc.

The most popular and disastrous Tsunamis around the world are:

Tsunami is termed as a series of waves which are created when a body of water is rapidly displaced. The displacement occurs due to any of the following factors:
  • Earthquakes
  • Mass movements
  • Underwater explosions
  • Landslides
  • Nuclear explosions etc
Historically, Tsunami is not rare as at least 25 tsunami have occurred in the last century. However the boxing day tsunami happened in 2004 that caused around 350,000 deaths.
