The word Tectonic refers to the Tectonic Plates in the theory or study of geology. This theory was developed for the observation of evidence for the large scale motions of the crust of the Earth.

The theories of the Tectonic Plates are based around a suppressed older theory which revolves around the theory of continental drift. There are various types of plates or tectonic boundaries that exist in the earth, these boundaries include; Convergent Boundaries, Divergent Boundaries and the Transform Boundaries.

The Transform Boundaries are boundaries in which the plate slides or grinds past each along transform faults.

The Divergent Boundaries are boundaries in which two plates slide apart from each other, these boundaries can be seen at mid ocean ridges.

The Convergent Boundaries are boundaries where two plates slide close to each other and commonly forming a subduction zone.
