Because of a chapter in which the brother chris, rapes his sister cathy. It is very very descriptive about it and is not material for children though I don't think it should have gotten banned for it. Whats funny is I got the book as a gift for my 12 birthday and read it and it really did not effect me to much

Im reading that book right now and he didnt rape her she wanted it but resited a little at first
