There are 4.2 cups in a single litre. The litre is a measurement within the metric system that is typically used to measure liquids or capacity. Capacity measures things such as vegetables, rice, gravy or sauces and you will see litre mentioned in many recipes in Europe and the United Kingdom where the metric system is used.
The metric system is a variety of measurement that is based on the decimal system. France was the first country in the world to accept this system as their way of measuring things. It has been in use in France since 1799. The United States is the only industrialised country that does not use the metric system. A system of prototypes has been in place since 1875 to help governments approve and switch over to the metric system. These prototypes are expected to be retired by 2015.
The metric system is based on powers of 10 and it includes inter-related base units and prefixes that display this system. They replaced a large number of measurement units that were being used in Europe that were not standardised in any way. The metric system was designed for commercial use but is has since proven to be useful for engineering and scientific endeavors. It was eventually adopted by the general public as well.
Since the development and introduction of the metric system, many other fundamental units have been added to help meet the needs of the science and engineering communities. These additional units were based on the meter and kilogram and were rationalised in 1960 by the publication of the International System of Units. Even though the United States has not converted to the metric system, it is recognised as the international standard of measurement.

There are 4 cups in a liter. There are 32 oz. In a liter. There are 6 tsp. In1oz.. There are 2 Tablespoons in 1 oz. And as odd as it sounds there are only 240mL in 1 cup, and really there isn't even quite 240 that's rounded up from 236 point something.

Accurately speaking, 4.227 cups equal a liter. We all know that 1 cup equals to 250 ml. 1 liter equals to 1000 ml. So it is quite obvious that 4 cups equals to 1 liter. In countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada, one cup is equal to 250 ml or ¼ of a liter. This is equal to 8.5 US fluid ounces. One fluid ounce is equivalent to 2 teaspoons.

In Japan, one cup is 1/5 liter (200 ml). A traditional Japanese cup is 180 ml. If you look at the nutritional labels of US dietary products, we see that 1 cup=240 ml as mentioned in the US law. In the US, one cup is equivalent to 0.5 US pints or 8.0 fl oz.
