A Kilogram is actually a unit of mass according to the International System of Units. It is equivalent to the mass of the International Prototype Kilogram which equals a liter of water.

On the other hand, a gram is also a unit of mass. It equals the weight of a volume of water that is equal to cube of the hundredth part of a meter.

Thus, 1 kilogram equals 1000 grams and subsequently one gram has 0.001 kilogram.

One gram is equal to 0.001 kilograms. A kilogram also known as kilogramme is basically a SI base unit of mass. It is also defined to be equivalent to a mass of the international prototype of the kilogram. According to the imperial system a kilogram is more or less equivalent to 2.205 avoirdupois pounds.

The gram is originally defined as "the absolute weight of a volume of pure water equal to the cube of the hundredth part of a meter, and at the temperature of melting ice". The symbol of gram is g. Today it is defined as "one one-thousandth of the SI base unit, the kilogram, or 1×10−3 kg".
