There have been many different theories about the actual shape, size and structure of the outer space or universe. Some reports say that the universe is trillions of light years big while some reports say that the universe is infinite. There has also been a theory that the universe grows every by some kilometres every year. Nobody has ever tried to measure the universe because that would be endless as it is way too big for measuring. Nobody knows where the universe starts from and where it ends. It is said that when the universe was born which means when the Big Bang took place, the stars were shattered in all directions and each direction started growing in big number.

There are more than a million galaxies in the world and there are only a few that the man has discovered. The universe is full of mysteries and things waiting to be discovered.

The "size" of the universe can be taken several ways. The way I choose is to say-- "how big is the matter/energy/ stucture that can influence us on earth?" This is something known as the "Hubble radius" (named after the same guy that NASA named the space telescope). Matter far from earth is travelling very fast relative to earth-- approaching the speed of light. At that speed very little energy gets to earth. There is also back-ground noise left over from the "big-bang" that drowns out distant objects. At about 15-20 billion light-years, energy from objects is so faint that it has LESS impact on us than the random noise. This is called the "Hubble radius."  An object beyond the Hubble radius is beyond science and therefore as much a speculation as fairies dancing on a pin or the nature of the human soul.

Outer space is a really big universe.

The universe is said to always be expanding, so the distance is infinite.
