Well it would mess up the whole chain and probably starve several animals and kill them and it would just continue until everything died.

If an animal in a food chain becomes extinct everything will find a way to adapt to make a better survival in the wild. For example, if an animal dies off the animal that eats that animal will find something else to feed off of.
