The capital city of the Republic of the Philippines is Manila. The country is made up of 80 provinces of the Philippines and 17 administrative regions.

• Provinces of the Philippines.

The provinces of the Philippines are made up of a collection of primary political divisions and administrative divisions. So far there are 80 provinces, which are further divided up into cities and municipalities. Each individual province has an elected government, who looks after and oversees the goings-on of the local government, as well as being involved in events concerning the whole government. All 80 provinces are divided up into seventeen regions depending on their cultural, geographical and ethnological characteristics.

All of the provinces of the Philippines is also a member of the 'League of the Provinces of the Philippines', which is an organization which looks at issues that affect metropolitan and provincial government administrations.

• Regions of the Philippines.

In June of 2010, there were 17 regions of the Philippines, which are geographically combined to form the three island groups: Luzon, Mindanao and Visayas. These regions are then divided further into the 80 provinces that are listed in a link above. Unlike the provinces, the regions are not grouped geographically, but rather for ease of administration. And unlike provinces, the regions do not have a separate local government.
