Try as you might you can't prevent fruit from rotting. Fruits rot because they naturally release ethylene which hastens the ripening process. Plus bacteria and mold get to it. Putting fruits in a bag traps the ethylene gas and ripens them more quickly. In principle by not putting them in a bag you may slow the ripening process because of the ethylene but you will proly increase its exposure to mold and bacteria. However if you keep them in the fridge you might help limit bacteria and mold exposure. Keep your ripe fruits away from unripe ones because of all that ethylene.

It rots because it is no longer a living thing when its picked, bacteria with in it or on the surface are not fought by anything so they just invade the fruit over time, its the same as when we get a germ or infection we kill it off, if we die the germs would rot us away to a slurry.

Fruits rot when it is over ripeIt is natural for fruits to release ethylene which hastens the ripening process of fruits. Also the presence of bacteria and molds  when it is not place in a refrigerator, because cold temperature help fruits not to rot fast.

Fruit rots faster if it is in a warm place because bacteria can grow on it and it makes it rot.

When fruit spoils, it's because various organisms have been eating it, and
the spoilage is what's left when they're done

I had to do a project once about what would be the best way to keep bananas fresh. So, with that, I am pretty sure it is the gases in the air that makes fruit spoil. With green bags(and on the commercial) they say something about that. Storage containers trap the gases inside with the fruit and it makes it spoil faster.

I believe that is correct
Good luck with your project :)

When a fruit comes in direct contact with oxygen it starts reacting to it and starts spoiling!

Fruit rots because the bad gas gets trapped inside and it keeps getting worse and worse until it starts growing mold from bacteria
