Halo effect is when you consider a person good or bad in one category and make a similar evaluation in other categories.
Stereotyping is to make the ideas about the people of other particular groups, based primarily on membership in that group.

So the main difference between them is that Halo Effect is dealing with an individual while stereotyping is one dealing with a group.
