What Is The Function Progesterone?

Progesterone is an hormone which is secreted by corpus luteum during second stage of the menstrual cycle. This hormone have many functions. Most common functions of natural progesterone are

1. Transformation of endometrium to secretory phase, so, progesterone stabilizes the linings of uterus and brings regular periods
   
2. To reduce contraction of smooth muscles of uterus
3. To maintain pregnancy
4. To inhibit milk production during pregnancy

Synthetic progesterone is used in birth control pills, shots and IUD. It is also used to treat cycle irregularities and in hormone replacement therapy along with estrogen.
