Why Are The Arteries Colored Red And The Veins Colored Blue?

Arteries carry oxygen rich blood the body from the heart and lungs so the blood looks bright red. The veins carry oxygen poor blood back to the lungs to pick up more oxygen and it is usually a darker, less red color. If you have veins close to the surface on your body, you'll see they're blue.
