Energy is basically a scalar physical quantity. It is an attribute of objects and systems which is conserved in nature. It is often defined as ability to do work.

There are numerous forms of energy such as kinetic energy, potential energy, thermal energy, gravitational energy, sound energy, light energy, elastic energy, electromagnetic energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy etc.

We can not see any form of energy. It is an invisible phenomena in nature. For example, if we heat up our food, we might be able to see the flames of the fire but we will not be able to see the heat that is being produced.
