Why are petri dishes incubated in an inverted position?

For the purpose of not breaking it's pair by means of falling.. When it's inverted, you get both the cover as well as the other.. While when you put it the other way around, you'll end up breaking it's pair.. It's also convenient for you to avoid opening the petri dish which may allow entry of microorganisms..
