It is pretty simple actually. A coenzyme is basically an organic compound that works with enzymes to promote various metabolic reactions. The definition I found goes like, a nonproteinaceous (not a protein) organic substance (something containing carbon) that usually contains a vitamin or mineral and combines with a specific protein, the apoenzyme (accepting/working/actual enzyme), to form an active enzyme system.
