Yes, there can be such a thing which is purported to be an impersonal conflict. On the scale of governments and nations sometimes one nation initiates a conflict with another nation over minor trifles under the guise of either bringing social order and civilization to their communities or to 'liberate' them like in the case of Iraq for instance. Americans had launched a "pre-emptive" strike against Iraq building their case on getting rid of a tyrant regime and bringing democracy and liberty to the people of Iraq, whereas in reality it was a war to merely control the Iraqi oil reserves.
