As cells are alive, they also need food to live on. Endocytosis is the process by which the cell takes in food materials from the outside. It is especially important to get those molecules that are so large that they can’t pass through the cell membrane. So what the cell does is that it extends the cell membrane like hands and then encloses the food molecule in it. When it is enclosed, the two hand like extensions merge and the particles comes into the cell. There are different forms of Endocytosis namely; phagocytosis in which the cell engulfs bacteria etc and pinocytosis in which it takes up liquids.
