Do people normally commit to their first real job out of college for the long term? That's related to their career.

I had a look for statistics on this, but there doesn't seem to be anything really definitive out there.

My suspicion is that people committing to one career after college was much more prevalent in previous generations.

One study I found suggested that "Ninety-one percent of Millennials (born between 1977-1997) expect to stay in a job for less than three years".

I think it also depends on things like the type of career, expected wages, competition for places, demand within the sector...but if I was giving a college graduate some advice these days, I'd recommend that they diversify their skills base and not get too hung up about what their first job is.

Many do if its directly related to their degree but with some degrees, one may have to take what they can find til something opens up in their selected field, which could take years. Which is why one really has to be careful in chosing the desired career field or their degree will be a waste of time as so many have found out.
