We lived for thousands of years as free, hunter gatherers.  Civilisation only happened over the last several thousand years, look at the state of our planet, look at your life in it's prison. We are not free. We are slaves. Civilised comes from the word "domesticated" and "perfected."  We are domesticated, we domesticated the first cattle and wild grass and we have domesticated ourselves.

Hobbes described the natural state of mankind (the state pertaining before a central government is formed) as "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short"  Some philosophies have basically argued against this conclusion (Marxism and Libertarianism) most notably, but the basic nature of man is to prey on his fellow man.  Man is basically no damned good and needs a government to keep his basic nature in check.

Being civilized is a good thing but when society becomes over-civilized with too many laws and regulations, it becomes bad as we then become robots to our Governments.  Now with our huge population, we have no choice but to make more laws and rules but then it infringes on our freedoms and rights. Now when does a society become over civilized is unknown as we have never seen it but it as close now as its ever been

civilisation = adaption = better chance at survival... But we should take our co² smoke machines to somewhere with no life (beyond earth, so not death valley or another lifeless desert).

The alternatives would be barbarity, ignorance, anarchy, and a struggle for survival. In my opinion that makes civilisation very good indeed.

Although the comparison isn't completely accurate, ISIS is perhaps the most barbaric uncivilised organisation on the planet. I don't think too many libertarians would want to spend much time in their company.
