Why meiosis is important to the survival of organisms?

Meiosis is important because it allows for a larger amount of genetic diversity than mitosis does. If you have two organisms combining their genes as opposed to just making a copy of yourself with the occasional mutation, the species with meiosis would be more likely to survive and differentiate, maybe become more complex.
