A moat is a deep wide ditch surrounding a castle, fort, or town, typically filled with water and intended as a defense against attack.
Highly effective!

A moat is something every princess should have !!! Where the hell is my moat I'm a freakin princess cos I said so !😡 I say this as I eat pizza from the box it was delivered in and try not to move too much cos I may vomit from way to much tequila last night . Public service announcement !! They put tequila in margaritas sometimes :/ most times apparently .. I should have people who inform of this .. And I should totally have a moat :p
The water surrounding Bodiam Castle is a moat.
The water surrounding Ightham Mote is a moat.Since you could easily have looked this up for yourself, I wonder if perhaps you've misspelt it?
If you were reading your New Testament and came upon Matthew 7:3 you would read, "Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own?" and if you thought it was "moat" instead of "mote", you'd have to think it referred to somebody who had watched a tear-jerker and had cried enough to create a moat around a castle (or somebody whose BFF had been dating their Ex).
In fact "mote" means a speck (like a speck of dust) and the verse, in modern English, really says, "Why make a fuss about somebody with dust in their eye when you have a splinter in your own."
