The lungs work mainly in conjunction with the heart and circulatory system. The heart circulates oxygenated blood throughout the body which uses the oxygen, then returns the de-oxygenated blood to the lungs where it picks up more oxygen and is circulated again. It's much more complicated than that but that's the gist of it!
