Actinopoda is the name of a phylum of organisms. It is also the name of a subclass known as subclass Actinopoda. This includes the heliozoans and the radiolarians. The organisms belonging to actinopoda are distinct because they have the shape of a ball and consist of spines that radiate or spout from the centre.

The specialty of this subclass or phylum is that the spines are a medium of procuring food for these species. It also has several other purposes like increasing the surface area, ingesting food and improving floatation. The radiolarians that fall under this subclass are very beautiful and are found on the Cheakespeare Bay.
