The process of formation of salt and water from an acid and a base is known as neutralization. This process is known as neutralization because during this reaction an acid and a base neutralize each other to form a salt. For example, common salt is formed when hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide neutralize each other. The equation for the reaction is;
NaOH + HCl ------ > NaCl + H2O
NaOH + HCl ------ > NaCl + H2O
