Amsterdam located in the south of the province North Holland, is the capital city of the Netherlands. It is one of the top metropolitan cities. This city was founded in the late 12th century as a little fishing village. And today it is recognized as the "world's party capital".

Amsterdam is the financial and commerce capital of the Netherlands and one of the most significant cities in Europe when it comes to business. The aged crooked houses, the paved streets, the tree-lined canals and the generous parks all add richness to the atmosphere of this vigorous city.

Amsterdam is home to many museums. There are many other historical sites that can be seen, such as the Anne Frank House, the Heineken Brewery and many landmarks of WWII all over the city. Amsterdam is also renowned for its canals (grachten), of which many flow within the city centre. Amsterdam is contains over 300 licensed coffee shops and hash-houses.

Its red-light district, de Wallen is famous all over the world. Window prostitution is legal in the Netherlands at specific places. This well known red-light district is located in the centre of the city along foremost canals and is clearly marked on maps.

Amsterdam is the capital city of Netherlands, which is located in the South of the North Holland Province. Its name means literally means Amstel Dam. It was found in the 12th century as a small fishing village. During the Dutch Golden Age, in the 17th century, the historical center with its concentric canals was hugely built. This beautiful city has a population of 743,027 and by the population size is the largest city of Netherlands. Its name is was first written in Latin, in the year 1275. Later on , it was changed in 1327 and it was preferred Amsterdam.

The 17th century was considered as it's Golden Age. In the early 17th century, it became the one of the wealthiest cities of the world. Ships sailed from Amsterdam to the Baltic Sea, North America, Africa and at the present day Indonesia and Brazil, and formed a strong worldwide trading network.The meaning of the name Amestelledamme is dam or dyke of the Amstel, where the name of the river Amstel , ame which means "water" and stelle means "dry ground".
