A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface (crust), which allows hot: Magma, ash, and gases to escape from below the surface.

Well, geology is the study of the Earth and it's history. By learning more about the Earth we understand it better and we also learn of the dangers and invent good warning systems and monitor these dangers. Usually located near fault boundaries.  Convergent subduction zones that is where most of our land volcanoes are located (and the most dangerous).
