Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. I learned a mnemonic to help me remember the order. It goes like this:

• My (Mercury)
• Very (Venus)
• Easy (Earth)
• Method (Mars)
• Just (Jupiter)
• Speeds (Saturn)
• Up (Uranus)
• Naming (Neptune)
• Planets (Pluto)
