The geographical location of the Philippines is very important since it gives the exact location and land area of the country. According to studies, the total land area of the Philippines is 300,000 sq km or 116,000 sq mi. It is found in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, just above the equator.

Philippines is one of the countries situated within the Malay Archipelago and is also a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Therefore, it's no surprise that the country is composed of numerous mountainous terrains and volcanoes both active and dormant.

The country is richly endowed with natural resources. Majority of its 7,107 islands are inhabited. There are 11 big islands that comprise the country which are divided into Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.  All in all, Philippines is divided into 17 regions with the National Capital Region as the biggest.

The Philippines boasts of many islands home to white sand beaches and untouched forests. Boracay is famous worldwide with millions of local and international tourists visiting each year. Coron, El Nido, Panglao, and others are also starting to gain popularity.

Manila is the capital city of the country and is the centre of all entertainment and business industries but there are also big cities found in other provinces such as Davao City, Cebu City, Bacolod City, and Iloilo City.

Even though the country is made up of several islands, transportation isn't so difficult. There are airports in all key destinations as well as regular ferries and buses. The main mode of transportation is jeepneys which is a long vehicle that can carry up to 30 passengers.

Due to its ideal geographical location, the Philippines enjoys dry and wet seasons throughout the year. The climate is perfect for growing root crops, rice, vegetables and fruits like mangoes and pineapples. Philippines is indeed a tropical paradise.

The Philippines consists of a number of islands of different sizes and shapes. All together the country looks quite long and thin - you could even say it looks like an animal with a big  head (where Manila is) and long thin legs! You can see a map of the whole country here.
