The distinction between the atoms, molecules and particles is given by the following explanation:

Atom is defined as the smallest component of element or matter. Every element in this world or matter is made up of many atoms whereas molecules can be defined as combination or group of two or more atoms. For example, a molecule can have six atoms in it. Molecules are formed when atoms of different elements share their electron to each other via covalent bonds e.g H2O, CO2 etc. The Particle itself is general term which can include atoms, molecules, ions, ionic substances etc. However the term particle should not be confused with atomic subparticles which is a different concept.
