The original source of energy of both coal and wind is the sun. The sun's energy was stored under great pressures in the ancient plant matter that became coal, while differences in the temperature of air at different parts of the globe, caused by the sun, is the origin of wind.

The sun or solar energy which was collected by plants in photosynthesis. These plants that died millions of years ago were placed under tremendous force by being buried under-ground. This caused the rearrangement of their overall structure to change into the form of light, opaque coal.
