A camera refers to a device that is used to capture images. The basic design of the camera was invented by the Iraqi scientist Ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen) and was known as camera obscura. English scientist Robert Boyle and his assistant Robert Hooke later developed a portable camera obscura in the 1660s. The camera was a result of optical experiments conducted by Alhazen, which accidentally gave way to the device that could capture images.

The first camera was invented by the Iraqi scientist Ibn Al Haitham. It was called camera obscura and it's operations were detailed in his book of optics. It was later in history that Robert Boyle developed a portable version of the aforementioned camera. The first practical camera for the purpose of photography had been invented by Johan Zahn in 1685. It was only 150 years later that technology enabled it to be practical.

The precursor to the camera was the camera obscure. The camera obscure is an gadget consisting of a darkened hall or box, into which beam is admitted throughout a double convex lens, forming an icon of outside objects on a facade of paper or glass, etc., located at the focus of the lens. The camera obscure was first make-believe by the Iraqi scientist Ibn al-Haytham as described in his Book of Optics. English scientist Robert Boyle and his helper Robert Hooke later on urbanized a moveable camera obscure in the 1660s.

The opening camera that was small and transportable enough to be no-nonsense for cinematography was built by Johann Zahn in 1685, despite the fact that it would be almost 150 years before know-how caught up to the point where this was possible. Early camera-friendly cameras were in actual fact similar to Zahn's model, nevertheless usually with the addition of sliding boxes for focusing.

Before each exposure, a sensitized cover would be inserted in front of the presentation screen to evidence the image. Jacques Daguerre's popular daguerreotype process utilized copper plates, while the collotype process invented by William Fox Talbot record images on paper.

There are different versions of the camera inventions. The first camera invented was named camera obscura. It was invented by the Ibn al-Haytham who was a scientist of Iraq in 1015-1021. this camera was very old fashioned, that have a dark box, and via the double convex lenses light was enter into that dark box, which make the image on a glass or paper of different types of objects. After that in 1660s a portable camera was invented by the Robert Hooke and Robert Boyle, who was the English scientists.

Then in 1685, there was another camera invented by Johann Zhan, that camera was more sophisticated and portable and quite sufficient for the general photographs.
After that Johann Heinrich Schultz has taken first picture via a wooden box camera that was sliding in 1826, and this camera was invented in Paris by Vincent Chevalier and Charles in 1724.

In 1861, the first color picture was taken by the James clerk Maxwell.
Later on with the passage of time, there came many other new and sophisticated cameras. With the advancement of technology, the digital cameras came in the market and many more.

The camera was invented to have fun , to be able to look back over any certain amount of time and look at the picture and remember that fun-ful time. Without the camera our world and lives would be dull and boring , we would have nothing to look back on and laugh about how goofy we look at that time and remember the good parts about life when were upset or down. To some people taking pictures is their life and some people take amazing pictures and make a great amount of money, The best thing about a camera you can take a picture and record a video and delete it whenever you want within seconds.

Most of the people think that it was in the 4th and 5th century when the Chinese and Greek philosophers gave the concepts of optics. However, the invention of a working camera is first carried out by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1826 or 1827. He was the first who made the first permanent photograph by using the first sliding wooden camera made by Charles and Vincent in Paris.

The Camera as a device has been known to man well before the middle ages; the earliest known mention being by the Arab mathematician Ibn Al-Haytham who is credited as being the first person to have built a model closely resembling the pinhole camera. The principles of optics and physics (light) have been known even further back with mention of it being found in the Greek period by Aristotle.

Though, the camera which could actually produce a picture is credited to have been built by the Frenchmen Charles and Vincent Chevalier while the first photograph developed using this camera was by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1826. The prototype of the modern camera was invented by George Eastman (1884) when he built a model using paper based photographic film and named his invention as Kodak. Before this Photography involved complicated chemical processes involving glass plates and the development procedure was quite tedious. Eastman's invention led to the production of the camera on a mass scale and the Brownie; the first roll-film camera was born (1900) enabling even a layman to take photos.

Why the camera was invented? Perhaps because people like their pictures taken or to preserve their memories when they go on vacations and maybe because they like to watch movies; yes, the camera heralded the arrival of motion picture photography and it was the Lumiere brothers (1895) who are credited to be the pioneers in this field.
