How Fast Do Fingernails Grow?

For adults they grow (on average) about 0.02 inches a week (or almost half a millimetre). That works out to 2.3 cm (or 0.9 inches) per year. That's about the same pace that continents move, by the way.

If you're thinking that your nails definitely grow more than that -- you're probably right. Young people have faster-growing fingernails than oldies. Fingernails also grow more during the day, in summer, and among people who live in warmest and sunniest climates. Men have faster growing fingernails than women. Children have the fastest growing fingernails of all. In fact, a child under about 12 can lose the very tip of their finger, and the finger tip will grow back (nail and all).

The fingernails on the longest fingers (the middle fingers) grow fastest of all. Also, the more the hand is used the faster the nail grow (because of a better blood supply). Good health promotes faster fingernail growth.

Toenails grow between a quarter and half as much as fingernails.

I need to use bolt cutters to trim my toenails and they (fingers too) grow like crazy. I guess that is good. I eat very very well and disciplined and exercise each day for 2 hours - do this if you want great "nail performance"!!!!

Actually garlic does the opposite. It weakens the nail enamel just like too much nail polish remover. I'd stop if your using this technique.

I used to bite my nails, but then I decided to stopm when my nails are short, I tend the bite them because I can't file them properly, but when the are long and strong, I can't stand biting them ! I've been growing my nails for about a week I and I alread notice huge difference from doing nothing to rhem atal, but they are still not very long. Last night I put aloe vera on my nails and over night I can notice a difference ! Nobody else has mentioned it and its the fasted thing I've used so for that works ! I will also try all of your sugestions, thanks for your help :) ( another tip : If you are a nail biter, when you go to bite your nails, think of how nice they will look if they were healthy and long ! Also distract your self from biting them by drawing, tapping your fingers, or something related to nails ! Push back your cuticles, file or painr them ! )

This is an interesting question and the answer is not as simple as one may think. It really depends on the age of the person and the finger that you are talking about. Typically, human fingernails grow at a rate of between one and ten centimeters per year, which is also the same rate of plate or continental motion, but that's another story. No two fingernails on your body grow at the same speed. The longer the finger, the faster the growth rate; for example, the thumb nail grows the slowest because it is the shortest and the middle finger grows the fastest because it is the longest. Also, the hand that is used more often is also the hand that houses the quickest pace. If you are left-handed, the fingernails on that hand generally grow a little faster.

Have you ever noticed that your toenails do not grow as fast as the nails on your fingers? Well they don't; fingernails grow almost four times faster than toenails. They also grow more quickly on younger people, during the daytime, and in the summer. A vast majority of animals have some type of nails whether it is a hoof or claw or what we would consider a normal fingernail in appearance. Fingernails are a necessary feature of our human anatomy and are not simply there to paint and trim. Without fingernails, simple tasks like grabbing or picking up items would be much more difficult for all species.

Rubbing the top of your finger where the nail grows from will make it grow faster due to increased blood supply

Well drumming your fingernails on a table or typing on a computer/laptop will help the blood supply move around the fingertips quicker. Also keep your nails in white vinegar for two minutes that will also help. Good luck.

The average growth rate for the nails in humans is 3 millimeters per month but this varies with the person and the rate is dependent on many things. This is because factors like weather, diet, age and general health affect the growth rate of nails. The growth rate is different for each nail, the smallest or the pinkie finger’s nail has the slowest rate while the second slowest are the thumb nails. The fastest growing nail is on the middle finger. In case, due to some accident you lose a finger nail, it will take almost 6 months to grow it back to the normal length. Nail growth is fast when we are young and it reaches a maximum rate between the ages of 10 to 14 but slows down gradually after that. It is enhanced during summers as compared to winters and poor blood circulation also causes the nails to grow slowly.

I had this cream you applied to grow nails and in two weeks they had grown about 1.5 in it worked really well , but if your a nail biter it doesn't cure the problem of biting them. But nail biter nails can grow quite quickly   with olive oil and lemon juice.

Nails do take a while to grow. I stopped biting my nails just a few days ago and by soaking them in warm soapy water for about a minute helps clean out the dirt (also wash your hands a lot).

I also soak them in white vinegar for 2 to 3 minutes then I rub canola oil on them for about 15 seconds.  I know your supposed to use olive oil but I don't have that. I do this once when I wake up and before bed.

Another good thing to do is drink at least one cup of milk at these times. Things like swimming and going to the beach are good because your nails are mostly water and it is good to keep them clean and hydrated! Hopfully this will help you get your nails looking as good as mine do already !

What I find helps my nails grow best is :
1. Wash your hands a lot as your nails are mainly made up of water.
2 Use a moisturiser after washing hands
3 Massage your finger tips for just like 5 mins a day maybe watching TV ( or in boring lessons)
4 Drink lots of milk
5 The olive oil thing works
6 I also have like this miracle nails growth stuff but I only just started using it so I don't know if it works?

Good luck

Healthy nails grow about 0.12 inch (3mm) each month or 1.4 inches (3.5
cm) each year. The middle fingernail grows the fastest, because the
longer the finger the faster its nail growth.

Finger nails, they grow on different paces, depending on the person! If you are a very sporty person, then the finger nails would grow slower ( because hands and fingers tend to be contaminated with bacteria and dirt MORE). If the person is well hygienic and elegant, then the nails will tend to grow faster and healthier and also if you use varies regims! Go to youtube, to get better answers!... I'm just here to tell you the truth!
