The exact date of sulfur is not known but it was discovered in the ancient times. It is also referred in Genesis in Bible and Chinese also used Sulfur in the 6th Century BC. In the 3rd century Chinese discovered the process of isolation of sulfur from Pyrite. In 1044 AD sulfur was used as a major component in gun powder. In the year 1777, Antoine Lavoisier found out that it was an element not a compound.
