Chromium is a natural element that is relatively common and widely
distributed in soils and rocks and occurs in rivers and seawater. People
are most familiar with chromium as a bright, shiny metal which is used to
plate car bumpers, handles and other items. But in nature chromium
usually exists combined with other chemical elements (for example
oxygen and potassium) in the form of chromium compounds.
