White blood cells are a persons defenses to infection. A low white blood cell count may be due to problems with bone marrow, such as a viral infection, chemotherapy or cancer of the bone marrow (such as leukemia). Someone with a low white blood cell count will be more susceptible to cold, flu and illness in general. Symptoms of a low white blood cell count generally start with a fever, usually the first sign you body is fighting infection. Without any white blood cells your body will get infected very easily, so any wound should be examined closely for pus, redness swelling. Wounds can also be very tender. Gastrointestinal infections could show up as any of: Cramping, diarrhea, difficulty urinating.  If you think you have a low white blood cell count go and have a blood test at the nearest doctors surgery to you. You will need a full blood count and the results should be between 2000-10,000 per mm^3.

White blood cells are related with immune system of our body. Their normal range is 4.5 to 10.80. Low levels of WBC means weak immune system. You feel have flu, fever, cold. Secondary infection to bone marrow can also reduce the WBC. Reduce WBC can cause neutropenia.
